Del Rey's Spring 2027 Musical

Volunteer Preview

Registration in October 2026

The Del Rey Musical program depends on the support and involvement of family members.  As part of each student cast registration, we expect an adult to sign up for both (1) one committee role AND (2) one show volunteer role.  We also ask tech crew families to sign up for one show volunteer role.  Tech crew does not require committee involvement (although we welcome your help – please contact us directly if interested).  We have tried very hard to create a manageable commitment for each family that distributes the load fairly.

Sign up for your committee role on the registration form. You also select a show volunteer role on the MTK sign-up form.  Please note that both a committee position AND a show volunteer role must be selected in order for cast registration to be considered complete!  Tech crew families must select a show volunteer role in order for tech crew registration to be considered complete.

Volunteer Step 1: Choose a Committee

Cast families only choose one committee during registration.

Our program will have four committees: Props, Costumes, Sets, and Marketing.  Each committee has a parent leader and nine volunteers. We anticipate a commitment of two to three hours per volunteer if the work is distributed evenly. Committees will begin meeting during the rehearsal period.

**Please note that families will be signing up for one of the nine supporting volunteer positions on our registration form. If your first-choice committee is sold out, please select one of the other committees that still has space available.

Props: Under the direction of the parent leader, Props committee duties could include: making or acquiring show props; setting up prop tables for actors and presetting props on stage before each performance; and breaking down the props table and storing props after performances.

Costumes: Under the direction of the parent leader, Costume committee duties may include: making or acquiring costume pieces; fitting costumes during rehearsals; organizing costumes before and after performances; and cleaning and returning/donating/storing (at DR) costumes after the last performance. Sewing skills are a plus (but not required).

Sets: Under the direction of the parent leader, Sets committee duties may include: making or acquiring  larger set pieces; marking (taping) set locations on the stage and creating “set look” photos; and storing, donating, or disposing of set items after the last performance.

Marketing/PR: Under the direction of Jin Sun Park and the marketing lead, Marketing committee duties may include: taking cast photos, creating the program and show poster, organizing and overseeing carpool publicity during performance week, and planning the cast/crew party.

Volunteer Step 2:  Choose a Show Volunteer Role

All families choose one show volunteer role on MTK during registration.

Our show simply couldn’t happen without our show-time volunteers.  This year we are asking each family, both cast and crew, to select one of the show volunteer roles described below.  All roles happen at a specific day and time (during one of the performances).

The sign-up form will be available during registration. This form will list the exact days and times for each role. We have given you general information for the roles below.

Stagehand: Two stagehands per show will work backstage left or right during the entirety of each performance. Duties will include keeping kids quiet in the wings, helping to track and restore props, and assisting with any quick changes. The stage right helper will also work the curtains. Stagehands are required to attend at least one dress rehearsal and plan to arrive at call time on the day of the performance.

Chaperone: Two chaperones will be located outside the MPR during the entirety of each performance. They will ensure that cast members remain quiet and attentive while outside; assemble cast members for their stage entrances; and assist with costume changes. Chaperones are required to attend at least one dress rehearsal and plan to arrive at call time on the day of the performance.

Usher:  Two ushers will scan tickets and distribute programs for the half hour before each performance. During the entirety of the show, they will ensure that the aisles are clear and that the audience is respectful (particularly the children seated on the floor near the stage). At intermission and immediately after the show, ushers will keep audience members from entering or exiting through the side doors near our staging area. Ushers will be guaranteed a front row seat for the show they are working.

Ticket Sales: One volunteer will sell tickets at the door for the half hour before each performance.

Concessions:  Two concessions volunteers for each performance will run concessions. Duties include initial purchase of concessions, set up and break down of the concession tables and manage sales before the show and during intermission. Arrival at least thirty minutes before the performance.
