Fundraising
The reasons are systemic, decades-long and complex - but the reality is that public schools in California are struggling and underfunded. Legislators and activists have passed laws at the state level to try to help the students most in crisis or with the least resources. This means our school district has historically and continues to face a significant funding gap between the actual cost of educating each student and the money received from public sources (for more information on how CA schools are funded here).
However we have some of the strongest schools in the state! We are fortunate to be in the position of continuing to offer small class sizes, classroom supplies, teachers on special assignment, a library with a librarian, music for all students, art program with an art teacher, a full-time PE teacher, hands-on-learning opportunities and more.
These are made possible only thanks to the generous donations made by Del Rey families each year. Donations have been and will continue to be crucial to the quality of our schools and bridge the funding gap.
We ask our families for a voluntary direction donation of $2,200 per student, with many ways to pay and payment plans available. Your generous donation to ONE Del Rey pays specific to Del Rey Elementary School and pay for the current school year costs. Our primary goal is 100% participation in fundraising from all Del Rey families, so every contribution, regardless of size, is greatly appreciated and needed! We also offer opportunities and community events throughout the year to help us achieve our goals.
